Challenge
Visual Freedom Center was among the first companies in the country to bring laser vision correction into shopping malls, putting a medical decision in front of consumers in a retail environment. That context created a specific problem: a customer browsing a mall is at the beginning of a buying process that involves significant personal research, real anxiety about a medical procedure, and meaningful cost. A sales associate cannot replicate that research conversation for every walk-in. The information gap between curiosity and commitment was wide, standing between the Visual Freedom Center and its customers.
The company needed a way to educate prospective patients at their own pace, on their own terms, right when they were already standing in the store. The solution had to work without staff involvement, hold a customer’s attention long enough to move them through the information-seeking phase of the buying process, and scale across every location in the country without requiring a separate manual content operation at each one.

V! Studios brought all three of its disciplines to this engagement. The engineering team designed and built the touch-screen kiosk platform and its content management infrastructure. The 3D animation and production team created the video content and interactive visual modules. The strategic communication team shaped the content architecture, determining how information should be sequenced and framed to move a prospective patient from curiosity to confidence. The kiosk combined 27 minutes of video clipscontent with a suite of purpose-built interactive modules, each addressing a distinct phase of how a prospective patient thinks through a medical decision of this kind.
The interactive modules covered four areas: a payment calculator to help customers understand cost and financing options; a candidacy quiz to help them assess whether they were likely to be good candidates for the procedure; an anatomy of the eye module explaining how laser vision correction works at a physiological level; and a common vision problems module covering the conditions the procedure could address. Together, the modules let each customer follow their own questions rather than a scripted presentation.
The kiosks were built for long-term operation and easy maintenance. Content updates could be pushed to every unit across the country via the internet, eliminating the need for on-site visits to refresh material. Site-specific content, covering local pricing, staff, or location details, was managed separately through a custom content management tool V! Studios developed for the platform, giving each location its own content layer without requiring a separate technical operation.
Installation and testing were completed on a schedule timed to each new location’s opening. Every kiosk was operational from day one.
Result
The kiosks were deployed across every Visual Freedom Center location in the country. They served as the primary educational touchpoint for prospective patients during the information-seeking phase of the buying process, handling the research conversation that would otherwise have fallen to the sales staff.
The effect on the sales process was direct. Customers who had worked through the kiosk arrived at a conversation with a sales associate already informed, already past the basic objections, and significantly closer to a decision. Staff reported that selling became materially easier. The kiosks were not a supplement to the sales process; they were the front end of it.

Why It Matters
This was more than a display screen or a digital brochure. It was an integrated product that required three disciplines working together: engineering to build the platform and content infrastructure, 3D animation and video production to create content that could hold a customer’s attention through a complex medical topic, and strategic communication to design the information architecture so that each module addressed the right question at the right moment. None of those three contributions would have produced the same result alone. The kiosk worked as a sales tool because all three were present.
The engineering decisions, remote content management, site-specific layering, and internet-based updates reflected the same thinking. A kiosk that requires a technician to update is a kiosk that goes stale. Building the content infrastructure alongside the interactive experience meant the platform could stay current across every location without an ongoing maintenance burden.
